Press says Town of Cheshire, CT Plans to Euthanize Geese!
Well, the town never said that. What they did say is "if all else failed they would consider Euthanizing the geese at Mixville Pond.
Life was Quiet and Peaceful!
For the past six years I have been building my business, gaining experience and knowledge about the behavior and biology of Canada Geese. I also earlier in the year earned my State DEP Nuisance Wildlife Operator License.
My professional life was productive, relatively peaceful and quite.
And then I heard the news coverage about the geese problem at Mixiville Park in the Town Cheshire. With the help of several friends from Cheshire, I tendered a proposal to provide services that included an offer to provide a geese control service for one month for free. I landed the contract. And the interviews and news coverage began.
So is it Working?
Well of course it is. We flat know what we are doing. The more than 40 unattached pond hopping geese are gone. Two families of geese including 12 to 18 goslings remain. And oh by the way, they were already hatched and growing when I started. The remaining geese are spending less and less time in the beach area. I have trained them to stay in the wet lands. I now use GeesePeace methods and procedures.
My Axioms
"It is not a question of finding a permanent solution since there are no permanent solutions. It is rather a question of being persistent. The geese are persistent and we must be more persistent."
"Working the geese only part of the year is problematic in the same way that euthanizing is - neither solution is permanent. Geese will presently return in all four seasons."
