How can that be true?

First, if the Armstrong property were converted, overnight,  to a parking lot, the geese would simply move to another more acceptable place --- they are very adaptable and will move to better locations with ease and grace.  Second, if skunks, foxes, coyotes, wild dogs, or hawks moved in,  the geese would move out because this would not be a safe environment.  “Harassment by dog” is the best, most humane method of geese control and highly recommend by the DEP.  Wherever I have done my job to control geese, both geese and people are happier. Happy people are not likely to want geese destroyed.  We at No Geese Today never hurt or kill geese.  Third, when geese move out, other less destructive birds like several different types of ducks move in.  And you will have your park back.

How do we know that this works?

My dogs and I have successfully controlled geese at  four golf courses (including the Course at Yale and Lyman Orchards) and at the “Apple Barrel” farm shop at Lyman Orchards.  We have never hurt a goose or gosling.  Our method works!

Why start a geese control program at Armstrong Park?

Too many geese on the property are causing nuisance problems and potential health problems.   Their droppings has virtually stopped tenants from enjoying the beautiful outside environs. The geese problem here has caused conflict between people and geese.

Isn’t this a natural and perfect place for geese?

No, in fact, human improvements like this artificially  preserved pond and  spacious lawn areas attract geese from their natural environs in wetlands, marshes and riverbanks.  Landscaped areas have contributed to the over population of geese in areas like this office park.

How is what you will do be more effective than what has been tried in the past?

This will be the first time that what the DEP calls “Harassment by Dog” will be used.  I will tether my trained dogs  in strategic places. (Both dogs are Certified Therapy Dogs at Bridgeport Hospital where I am a trained Chaplain.)    If necessary I will chase the geese on the pond with my kayak.  This precise method  works. I have more than 6 years of experience and have perfected this method to be both effective and safe for the geese.

Do you just hate geese?

No, I don’t.  I have been working for years on strategies that will be a win-win situation for goose and man.  I actually admire geese --- they mate for life and protect their young tenaciously.  I believe by moving geese away from this property and removing the conflict, I will be serving the best interests of both.
