Geese Appear to Have
Flown the Coop
July 31, 2008
Several years ago I decided to stop going to Mixville Park because of the geese problem. Today, I decided to see whether there was any improvement from the effort by Parks and Recreation Department to get rid of the geese.
There was indeed! The geese were nowhere in sight, and the beach and grassy areas were almost completely free of their droppings. Moreover, the grassy areas were nicely mowed into lawn-like quality all around the pond. Last of all, there is a bridge over the stone dam between the upper and lower parts of the pond, so it's easy to cross with no need to wade.
Bottom line: I'm happy to say that I went swimming at Mixville Pond and it was very enjoyable because the park is so clean.

Mixville's Goose Problems
Appear to be Solved
July 31, 2008
Four years ago, my husband and I moved to Elim Park. One of the attractions to the town of Cheshire, other than the fact that our son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Lisa Long, have been residents for a number of years, was the beach at Mixville. We celebrated our 50th anniversary in the pavilion there. We went there many times over a 10-year period, until the serious goose problem developed.
We have gone back to Mixville Recreation Area several times this summer. The beach and water are very clean.
We trust the town will hire the "Goose Chaser Man" for the rest of the summer and in future summers.
