One Man and Two Dogs
Alan and Molly at work at
Lyman Orchards Golf
Club in Middlefield. Just another day at work. Molly holds the AKC
Certified Canine Citizenship Certification.
This means that she is field tested around people and other dogs. She
also several advanced obedience degree. And she he can flat work geese!!
Just about 6 years ago I landed a long term consulting contract at Northwestern Louisiana State University. It was my job to bring small to medium sized manufacturing companies together to form training collaboratives.
I was working just
one week
a month; I would fly down to Louisiana on Monday and return on Friday night.
Not a bad 3 years capping off a long career working in or consulting for Fortune 500
Companies and Universities.
One day, my wife suggested that I was getting bored just hanging around the
house the rest of the time. She suggested that maybe I could do some
volunteering. That suggestion stung a bit since I wasn't bored at all.
That same late winter day I was walking my 9 month old Kerry Blue Terrier on
Tradition Golf Course in Wallingford, Ct. I was obedience- training her off
lead. We crested a hill and she saw a flock of geese and left my side,
flushing them to the sky. I went home and told my wife that I was going to
get contracts on golf courses to herd geese.
During the next few months I taught Molly some very specific behaviors, and
worked with the geese population at Tradition. I continue to do the geese
control work there. I subsequently got agreements to do the geese control
work at Lyman Orchards Golf Club and Pine Valley Golf Course.
